The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least the first year of life. Breastfeeding is crucially important to the health of infants and their mothers. Breast milk is the preferred and most appropriate source of nutrition for infants. Eight Northern WIC supports and promotes breastfeeding as the optimal way to feed infants.

 

Peer Counselors provide breastfeeding promotion and support at WIC clinics and over the phone. Our Peer Counselors are available for hospital and/or home visits. They are trained on using hospital-grade electric and manual breast pumps. Our breastfeeding initiation and duration rates are results of our dedicated peer counselors.
